Unexpecting

By hissychick | May 15, 2009

For the few of you hardy souls that have suffered through my blog ramblings for at least the last little while two things would have become evident:

  1. I would like a third child to complete our family
  2. Mr hissychick and I aren’t exactly the most fertile myrtles.

Let’s start with point one.

I’ve made no secret of the desire to stupidly ensure that the kids outnumber us parents, a point on which mr hissychick and I have not yet seen eye to eye.  In my ideal world I see a successful embryo transfer from our remaining five frosties and a bub born at least six months after miss A is well established at school, E is settled into preschool and I’ve enjoyed a decent spell back at work.  Mr hissychick of course sees this fantasy being played out with my next husband, as he will have gone out to ‘buy some milk’ and never returned.

Which leads us to point two.

We need to at some stage come to a consensus about whether our family is complete or not, because to conceive said child involves planning and money and no spontaneity and non fun drugs and many and varied people poking around my girly bits, thanks to my husband’s 100 % antibody affected sperm and my post ectopic one tube and naughty thyroid status.

So that is why we were more than surprised when just under two weeks ago I peed on a stick and got this:

twolines

And because my beloved and I are a bit slow, we retested the following day with something which stated the results in a more obvious fashion:

spelling_it_out

A few days later I had some blood drawn and was given a most definite something in your body is producing human chorionic gonadatropin result of 4502. My thyroid function is blessedly normal.

And today I rode the ultrasound wand for old time’s sake:

the_enterprise

That is not the enterprise you are looking at, it is one embryo.  In my uterus. With a heartbeat.

We’ve been given a due date of Jan 9 2010.  Three weeks before miss A’s birthday, and less than four weeks before she starts school.  It also happens to be my niece’s birthday. Talk about timing.

Guess now is as good a time to mention that following the deed which led to all this carry on I remember clearly thinking “So this is all it takes for most people to make a baby”. Cue spooky music…

I am still reeling and panic chowing down on the old folic acid.  When I am not beginning to surf the waves of early pregnancy nausea and exhaustion, or wincing at breastfeeding E with such sensitive nipples that is.

Sex makes babies?  What a ridiculous concept.

** Please no hints on Farcebook whatsoever, there are work and family types that most certainly do not need to know just yet.  Smooches for your discretion..**

  1. OH.MY.GOODNESS!!!!!

I don’t know you from a bar of soap, but that piece of news has me so damn happy for you and your family!

What a beautiful surprise, what a beautiful miracle. I’m just so happy that you get to experience it all the “easy” way, with only your husband prodding around in your girly bits!

I’m wishing you a lovely, boring pregnancy.

I am just so thrilled for you all.

  5. OMG!!! You are the second person I know that this has happened to!!!

My gf had twins at 26 weeks (both survived) and spent the following 6 years IVFing it - with NO results. Natural Positive - PERFECT pregnancy, labour and now a beautiful (PERFECT!!) baby boy to boot.

I’m so happy for you hissy - truly I am.

I think its time I come out of hiding and I couldn’t think of a better blog entry to comment on. Congratulations!!!!

I’ve been reading your blog for sometime now (its linked on many of my favourites) and always felt a bit weird commenting. Like I was some strange weird person.

Well not any more. I’ve christened this blog with my comment and there will be plenty more.

How on earth did you manage to get Mr hissychick to “cooperate” when he seemed so adamant not to have #3?

I forget to read blogs for a week or two and you write something entirely incredible.

No early morning jabs at 150units
no early morning jabs at 300 units
No early morning jabs in the arm
    No early morning dildo cam

No “to the minute” jab in the stomach exactly 36 hours prior to more jabs in the hand and a torch to light up the MCG up your clacker.
