Assvice for a fellow cafe patron

By hissychick | May 16, 2008

I am not here to babysit your child while you drink your coffee and chat leisurely with your girlfriend. It may have escaped your attention but I am juggling two kids solo and I do not appreciate your snotty nosed little treasure’s repeated and shriek filled attempts to grab my littlest one’s toy phone. The very one that is allowing me two nanoseconds to gulp down some lukewarm chai latte and half a biscuit shared with my still unwell three year old, our first chance to actually enjoy a little treat together in a week.

And could you please change that stinkbomb of a nappy while you are at it. It’s not fair that I should cop the accusatory stares for the smells emanating from the vicinity of the highchair. So remove your little monkey before she topples said chair and leave us in peace, OK?

One last thing. If you ask me “Is she bothering you?” ten whole minutes after you last paid attention to your child then you’ve answered your own stupid question.

Gah.

(PS Sorry to all my fave bloggy chicks and blokes for not leaving comments this week. As you can imagine sick threenager + baby on the verge of walking = no ‘puter time for hissychick beyond the occasional two minute burst. By night time I can barely remember my name let alone form a coherent sentence.)

  1. How do people not get embarrassed about this? Mine occasionally disrupt people and I’m sure my face must glow hot enough to light the room.

  2. Oh, poor Mummy. Hope things will be better soon.

I can imagine how terribly inconsiderate the other person is. Sigh…. She should at least make an effort to give you a break even if it was impossible to control her child in public.

Next time just announce loudly to the child that you’re all sick, so that the Mommy will quickly take it away. Hahaha…

  3. I don’t mind kids coming over to my table, they’re just doing what comes naturally to them. It’s lovely for kids to interact and E especially loves new faces.

However it is a real pet peeve of mine when other parents pay no heed to what is going on and allow the situation to get out of hand. The worst example of this for me was a mother who allowed her eight year old to keep following me around the supermarket and who kept trying to touch a newborn E in her pram even after I’d said see you later you go back to your Mum. Several times. Grr.
