Double digits
By hissychick | April 18, 2008
After a busy day entertaining a not small mother’s group of six mums and twelve kids leading into a disrupted night’s sleep and followed by a morning of minor issewes such as a flat battery and hysterical threenager convinced they’ve broken the car….it’s so nice to catch my breath.
And realise that the baby waving hello across the loungeroom as I type, the infectiously joyous and deliciously cheeky little E, is ten months old today.
My little pixie monster, growing up so fast, able to say “MUM” and “ta” with conviction and who understands “Where’s Mummy/Daddy/A/the light” and claps hands, lifts her arms, high fives and waves hello and goodbye when asked. And who has developed her own highly sophisticated methods of babble, bodily communication and seriously funky dance moves to fill in the gaps. We’re still learning the secret language of E, and mr hissychick and I are convinced that it is best not to become too fluent in said language as there appears to be many plans for world domination underway. Most likely at the expense of us parents. And, somewhat disturbingly, to a soundtrack that includes A-Ha’s Take on Me.
My little pocket rocket, into absolutely anything and everything, consumed by an immediate curiosity to work out what is where, how it works and how you can claim it as your very own, much to the amusement and occasional enragement of A as she resigns herself to the fact that some of her own special toys are no longer off limits as she’d like them to be.
My little booby monster, still breastfeeding successfully (YES!), although you’re not so keen on daytime feeds anymore. However I’m fairly certain that we will make it to one year without bottles or formula and the sense of achievement this gives me is immense. If only I still had the cleavage to boot.
Darling girl, while it is sad knowing that what is left of your babyhood will be fleeting, it is a pleasure beyond words to watch, heart full of unconditional love, your metamorphosis into a unique and cherished little person before our very privileged eyes.

Applaud applaud! Breastfeeding for a whole year! That is just great!
Ahhh….one of those moments where you look at your little one and wonder where did all those months go?

Posted by: Ann on April 21st, 2008 at 2:15 amCongratulations! 10 months and still going on. Breastfeeding is just so wonderful.
Max still nurse at night and quite a few times through the night too. He refuses any bottle and other milk, but he does take cheese and lots of good food, so I am not too worried.
Beautiful baby will soon be on her feet too! Oo..times passes so quickly when we’re having fun.
