Nine months

By hissychick | March 18, 2008

And so miss E, you have achieved another momentous milestone, having lived for longer in the outside world than the precious time you spent growing in my womb.

My precious girl, you are so big and so clever now. From the tiny, wide eyed 2.9 kg 46 cm long pixie that you were when you made your dramatic entrance to the 9.3 kg, 69 cm energiser bunny that you are now time has both stood still and speed by so very fast.

When awake you are constantly on the go, crawling, sitting up, climbing, attempting to stand, grabbing, reaching and exploring anything and everything that is within reach- and much of what isn’t. You babble and chirrup away happily, with bububbub and mmmmummmmum the newest sounds in your repertoire, added to yayayayayayaya and yeeeaahh. We’re still waiting on dadadadada, and if you are the smart cookie that I suspect you are you’ll do so soon so that you can twist your Daddy around your little finger just that little bit tighter.

You love your big sister, greeting her with squeals of delight when she comes into to say hello in the morning, but we’re also seeing the beginnings of real and rather vicious sibling rivalry alongside your rapidly expanding mobility. If you think Mummy is looking you will whinge whenever your sister is within a two meter radius of you, hoping to be picked up or given the toy that you desire that your sister currently has. Never mind if said toy is a choking hazard and for a much older child. To some extent I can also understand your scared shrieks when your older sister gets too close, as she is rather fond of hugging you a little too exuberantly, blocking your path, pulling you back and snatching things off you when Mummy or Daddy isn’t looking. Oh the joys…

You have four teeth now, having just cut your first two top teeth which when completely through are going to make you look just that much older (sob!). Thankfully you haven’t really bitten Mummy yet, although we are having some issues with breastfeeding, in that you are too busy and distracted during the day to bother and you are refusing poor old leftie at most feeds too. Which would be OK if you were eating lots of solids and drinking plenty of water. But you’re very variable in that respect. And so we’ve been a bit housebound of late as we try to work through this phase. Mummy would dearly love to feed you for the full twelve months but I’m beginning to wonder whether you have other ideas.

You are a very independent bub, already having hissyfits about being strapped into a highchair/pram/having your nappy changed/getting dressed after your bath, which has given us a bit of insight into just how strong and determined you are going to be. It appears that your easygoing nature may be a facade for the feisty girl that lurks within, which makes Mummy alternately proud and terrified.

You are very bonded to your beloved Snugzeez, we’ve broken the sleep time only rule and he is now dragged everywhere you go, which makes for a cute albeit awkward crawling style at times. We know you are making huge progress with your comprehension of spoken word, because if we ask you “Where’s Snugzee?” you will go and find your beloved blankie rabbit. You certainly let us know if you wake up and Snugzee has dropped out of the cot and is beyond your reach too.

You’re still sleeping in Mummy and Daddy’s room, partly because we are about to undertake some minor renovation works which of course mean major moving around of furniture…and mostly because Mummy finds it hard to let go. I want to drink in every precious moment of your babyhood, especially as it looks like you may very well be our last.

Darling girl, you have enriched our lives so very much and I simply cannot imagine life without you. It is an absolute pleasure and a privilege to watch you grow and develop into your very own little person, and I love you more than words can say.

  3. Aww thanks guys. Milestone posts are something I try to do from time to time and I want them to be special.

I find it more personal than keeping a record of firsts in a baby book. Well that’ll be my excuse when E asks me why her book doens’t have half the detail of A’s LOL.

  4. Oh, The Baby Book. Some one gave me one for Micah and I gave it away. The a group of friends gave one when I was carrying Max and I gave that away too. Sorry, not that I don’t appreciate the gift, but I figured if we are planning to have 4 kids (that’s what we’re kinda targeting at) I am not going to be able to keep 4 Baby Books well. So there. No baby books in this home.
