Sounds like you have a calm and rational approach there Kathie.

If only I could be so calm. On my bogue days I find myself going from 0 to yelling in less than three seconds which isn't helpful. Sigh!

response to my wailing 3 1/2 year old:

If I am feeling ok, I'll be trying to pacify him or calm him. If it begins to irritate me then it's, "Ok. go on crying. Tell me when you're done crying, and then we'll talk some more."

If I'm feeling lousy, I'll normally scold. And if he continues to to wail, "You want to cry? Let me help you. You want to cry some more?!!" And threatens to spank him (which normally remains as a threat).

Both ways works, although I wish I never had to yell and scold him.
